WD My Book Live Data Recovery – Free Evaluation

We are seeing a huge increase in cases where all data on the Western Digital My Book Live appears to be lost / deleted seeming following an update to the NAS. We have also heard speculation that malware may be the cause of the issue and are awaiting confirmation of the case of the data loss.

We are able to successfully recover the data from the WD My Book Live in the majority of cases so long as the disk hasn’t been overwritten during other recovery attempts. Recovery outcomes so far have only been RAW data, i.e. by file type without file names. In addition, large files may be incomplete or corrupt. We continue to work on a solution for recovering file names and directory structures. As long as the data loss is due to the update issue and the data isn’t encrypted we offer the recovery service for a fixed price dependent on the capacity of the drive.

If you chose not to proceed you only pay return shipping if you wish to have the drive returned. Please note however that it will have been disassembled and you will receive the internals only, i.e. the SATA Hard Drive plus the PCB NAS card.

Our process includes removal of the SATA Disk from the enclosure, creating a clone (image) of the disk to another disk ensuring that the source disk is physically write blocked during the imaging process. Once a successful image is obtained, this is then mounted and analysed so that the user data can be copied out to destination media.

Turnaround

The process takes approx. 36 hours from start to finish (depending on the WD My Book Live capacity) however due to demand turnaround time is currently approx. 7-10 business days. If your recovery is mission critical we offer an express evaluation where the evaluation will be completed within 24hrs of receiving the drive and recovery will be expedited if you wish to proceed following the evaluation.
