Shred it by hand. This is the cheapest option, but is only really suitable for a small quantity of paper, perhaps a confidential letter or two. For any more than that it will be a very time consuming endeavour!  Be certain that you tear the paper up into very small pieces and ideally spread the pieces across several different bins so they don’t all end up in the same place. If you want to recycle the paper, make sure that the pieces that contained anything sensitive are separated and put in a general waste bin.  Top Tip: If you have a hole punch, punch holes where any sensitive text is positioned on the paper.

Use paper-shredding scissors. Relatively inexpensive, paper shredding scissors will make short work of shredding a few documents into tiny strips. They are safe, handy, and easy to use, if yo’ve only a small amount to shred why not grab a pair online?

Burn it. Feeling a bit like James Bond? In a hurry to destroy that sensitive letter? Burning documents is a risky business, you may burn yourself or set fire building! As such it’s probably best avoided.

Dissolve it. This will be time consuming but can be effective. Place the documents in a water tight container and fully submerge in water. A few days later the paper should fall apart in your hands as you remove it from the water. As it dries it will crumble to nothing and be safe to dispose of (once dry) in your recycling.

Buy a Shredder. Depending on your budget, you could buy a cheap electric shredder, be warned these are very slow and can only do a sheet or two at a time. More expensive models may get through 10 sheets at once but due to their low duty cycle will overheat and switch off to cool down regularly, due to the cost, time and effort involved, we would suggest using our services! Top of the line office shredders have a much greater duty cycle but will be very costly and at this price point it is definitely worth using a service such as ours.
